Contribute a new Concept

Concepts refers to a word, phrase, notion or idea that hold several Definitions. These definitions can be authored by one or more people.

To add a Concept please take into consideration the ethos of the Global Tapestry of Alternatives and the Introductiory Note of the Dictionary of Radical Alternatives and its four guiding principles:

  1. The dictionary prioritizes cross-cultural understanding by opening access to place-based concepts presented in their original languages, highlighting both their resonances and their differences.
  2. Please consider submitting concepts that are informed, realted and/or emerging from specific territorial and political struggles. Avoid submitting concepts defined solely in academic or one-author definitions.
  3. Please consider submitting concepts that correspond to the definitions that the dictionary of radical alternatives: Worldviews, Praxes, Common Terms and/or "Companion Concepts" which are defined as follows:
  • Worldviews: ideologies, philosophies, and methodologies currently being applied in social movements. Examples include jineology, buen vivir, swaraj, etc.
  • Praxes describes concepts that are projects and communities of practice living and unlearning in radical ways. Practices with wider applications include those with multiple instances across geographies and wide applications, not isolated to just one locality. Examples include agroecology, transition movements, permaculture, etc.
  • Common Terms refers to the expression of a common or well-known term in different parts of the world for example: wellbeing, solidarity, collective work, communal practices, etc.
  • An additional category of Companion Concepts is used to refer to concepts that while not pertaining to particular struggles are presented here as means to support and understand the the oncoing civilizational crisis and the response form movements and alteranatives.

The process of submission is as follows:

  1. Following the stipulated criteria (above), submit your suggested concept through this form. Please note that all proposals we’ll be internally reviewed which means that submitting an entry does not guarantee its publication.
  2. Internal revision. The document will be reviewed by the DWG team. We will contact you once we have thoroughly reviewed the case.
  3. Feedback. After the review, we will reach out to request corrections, additional information, or to make suggestions for improvement. That's why we ask you to provide your name and contact information in the provided form.
  4. Publication. If the editorial team approves your suggestion, it will be included in the platform and the Concept will be available to recive a Definition.
